A classical vocabulary handled with a light touch — panelled walls, turned timber and antique brass, kept from tipping into pastiche by a disciplined neutral palette.
Classical detailing goes wrong in one of two directions: too timid to register, or so committed it becomes costume. The work here was calibration.
The mouldings are real and consistently applied, but the palette underneath them is quiet — a narrow band of cream, bone and soft taupe with no competing accent. That restraint is what allows a carved four-poster bed and a tufted Victorian armchair to sit in the same house as a backlit contemporary artwork without either looking out of place.
The foyer sets the terms. A black sculptural console against a lit, textured panel, flanked symmetrically — formal in structure, contemporary in material. Everything that follows is a variation on that agreement between old and new. The bathrooms are where the scheme relaxes: patterned encaustic tile and brass fittings, warmer and more playful than the bedrooms, because a house that is uniformly serious is exhausting to live in.
